SOUTH AVENUE RE-CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Asphalt Paving Systems, Inc., has been contracted by the City of Plainfield to perform the reconstruction of South Avenue from Woodland Avenue to Terrill Road.
This work includes the removal and replacement of limited granite block curbing, removal and replacement of specific concrete driveway aprons, removal of the existing delineated crosswalks and the installation of ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps. Decorative lighting fixtures will be relocated and trees will be planted at specific locations. Full depth roadway reconstruction will be completed and decorative imprinted crosswalks will be provided.
In order to complete this work, it is necessary to detour traffic around the work zone for the southwesterly lane of travel, while at the same time maintaining one lane of traffic through the work zone for the northeasterly direction of travel. A fully posted detour will be in place to assist drivers around the work zone.
All businesses and residences will be accessible throughout the construction process. However, there may be minor restrictions at specific locations depending on the nature of the work and we ask that everyone abide the signs and delineators so as to provide for a safe work zone. Should your residence or business be affected by restrictions for access, you will be advised 48 hours in advance of such restriction.
We realize that this work will create some minor inconveniences and we apologize for that in advance. Should you have any concerns regarding the construction activity, please feel free to contact our office at 609-561-4161 or the construction manager for the project, Remington, Vernick & Arango Engineers at 201-624-2137; also Greg Nauha of Remington at 609-670-8382.
UPDATE (1/26/12):
Jackie Foushee, Remington Engineers' project engineer for the South Avenue street work, and Jacques Howard from the City of Plainfield, provided the following update at the January 26 meeting of the Plainwood Square Merchants Association:
The project will resume April 1st weather permitting. If the weather is good they will begin March 15th.  The work will take four weeks at most and could take less if weather permits.
The pulverizing machine goes down 10 inches, there will be another machine following it and then the final paving of the top layer after that.  Road work will begin at Terrill and continue to Woodland on one side of the street and then back to Terrill for the other side.
One way traffic will occur while work is in progress. Two way traffic will resume at the end of the work day and on the weekends. Traffic will only be one way when safety dictates and the project engineer will determine when it is necessary.
One Parking lot entrance way for each business will be accessible at all times.
